Considering this is specifically designed to be used for candling, I was a bit upset with the fact that it is not a "cool-light" bulb.
The bulb gets extremely hot within seconds of flipping it on, and because the tip is METAL, it absorbs all this heat and before you've candled two eggs, it is scalding hot.
I accidentally touched my arm with it when I tipped it backwards to hold it under my arm while I lifted nest box and it left a visible blister where it touched me.
I am always extremely nervous candling eggs that do not hatch with the others because I'm afraid it will burn the delicate skin of the newborns.
Not to mention - with temp sky rocketing so fast I can't imagine this is good for the embryo's, either.
You need to be VERY quick with your candling.
For the price, it's a bit disenchanting to learn this after the fact. Something should be posted warning that the bulb is not a controlled temperature one.
